Farmers Market Taranaki Summer Pop-up 2025
You may be asking lately, "you guys have got such a good thing going at the Huatoki Plaza - why would you move?" - we get it, but that's also the answer to that question too. We're trialing a bigger space because we're GROWING! 🙌🌱
We’ve had a huge amount of feedback on the pop-up market at Tasman Prospect from both our stallholders and you amazing market regulars. We’ve been able to have some great kōrero at the market but we thought we’d take a little moment to talk about why the Farmers Market Taranaki Trust decided to host the pop-up.
First off, the farmers market has grown significantly in size (and quality) over the past two years. This has been thanks to our amazing stallholders, all of you as our valued customers, and to our two wonderful market coordinators (first Amber and now Siobhán). This improvement was recognised mid-last year when we won the Farmers Market of the Year at the OrganicNZ awards.
Because of this growth we’re at the stage where it looks like we’re going to quickly grow out of Huatoki Plaza. As a result, we have been on the look out for another market site which will allow for this growth. Needless to say, there are a lot of factors to consider – everything from parking to weather protection and public toilet accessibility. Our charter entrusts us to consider both “existing and future producers” so as well as our duty to our amazing stallholders we also have a commitment to support future stallholders and producers.
Thankfully we have had massive support from Te Puna Umanga Venture Taranaki, the Toi Foundation, the New Plymouth District Council and our community to consider future options. They have supported us to host the pop-up market as a short term trial (the first six weeks of 2025) to see what other factors we need to take into account when looking for and moving to a new venue. One of the biggest successes of the pop-up so far (despite having only had two markets out of four at the new venue) is an increase in visibility for the market and new customers coming to check us out.
Over this period, some of the market trustees will be at the market on Sunday’s supporting our market coordinator and our vendors so feel free to come have a chat! We hope this have given you all some insight on why we are hosting the pop-up and are always actively trying to support, grow and improve all aspects of the market!
Finally, if you are food producer, we'd love to have you at our Farmers Market! you can find more info and sign up here. Not only is it an amazing way to spend a Sunday morning, but it is a great way to grow sales and engage with local customers!
Thanks again for all your support - See you Sunday!
Where is Tasman Prospect?
Tasman Prospect Park is the patch of grass and playground on the coastal walkway, just a few meters from the Windwand. Check out the maps for some way-finding assistance. It's only a short walk from the Huatoki Plaza, which still remains our rain off venue.
We send out a weekly email about our location update each Friday as well as posting on our socials. You can sign up via our website below.
